PORSCHE
Although the Porsche Company was founded in 1931, the first Porsche car developed wasn't until 1939. Proud of their German Heritage, Porsche continues to be one of the most prestigious car makers and also the world's largest race car manufacturer. In Australia there are 5 different models available including the Boxter, Cayman, Panamera, Cayenne, 911 with the new 911 GT2 RS one of the newest on the market. Porsche is part of the Volkswagen Group.
RANGE ROVER
Range Rover is the luxury British alternative to its founder the Land Rover, providing its purchasers with consistently innovative re-designs of the 4x4. Until recently, only the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Vogue have been available but in 2011 the Range Rover Evoque was launched.
TOYOTA
Toyota started its automotive division in 1933 through the founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda. Toyota sells 14 different models in Australia. The Toyota Camry is built locally whilst other models, such as the Hilux, Corolla, Aurion and ever popular small car the Yaris, are imported from Japan, Thailand and other nations. Toyota prides itself on quality, durability, reliability, innovation, safety and sustainability. Toyota produced its first car in 1935, called the A1. In 1937 Toyota Motor Company was founded and has gone on to become the world's largest car manufacturer by volume.
SKODA AUTO
Skoda has grown into a competitive automotive company throughout Europe since its development in the Czech Republic in 1895. Since 2000 it has been under the Volkswagen Group. After its short break of exporting to Australia, Skoda has been back here since 2007. Currently the Octavia, Fabia, Yeti and Superb are available. The Skoda Octavia is the highest selling model as a great family car.
NISSAN
Nissan was established in 1933 in Japan where it is the 3rd largest auto manufacturer. Nissan expanded its products to Australia in the 1950s with the popular Datsun. It has continued to grow with strong advances in technology and improving its environmental standards with the Nissan Leaf electric car. To date it has 14 vehicles available to the Australian market including the Dualis, Murano, Pathfinder, Patrol & 370Z. It has managed to brand itself strongly thanks to cars such as the Nissan GT-R.
MINI
The new MINI owned by BMW was inspired by the earlier generations that lasted from 1959- 2000. Since the release of the new MINI in 2001 there have been 2 generations. In Australia the 2nd generation vehicles available are the MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper S, MINI Cooper Cabrio and the MINI Cooper Countryman.
MARCEDES BENZ
Mercedes-Benz has been around the automotive industry since 1881 with Karl Benz creating the first petrol car. There were a great number of influential people involved with the beginnings of Merecedes-Benz. Early on they had racing success that has continued till the current day. In Australia they currently have 35 models available such as the S63 AMG, SLK, C63, E63, Cl-Class, SLK, G Series, GL Series & ML Series. The Mercedes-Benz logo is the best recognised symbol in the world.
MAZDA
Mazda made its first vehicle in 1931 and has since gone on to become of the world's best recognized automotive brands with the Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-9, MX-5 & BT50. The company officially changes its name to Mazda in 1984 and is best known for its work in the development of the Wankel rotary engine. This helped the company find a unique selling point amongst other Japanese manufacturers. Mazda sells eight different models in Australia and is the fifth best selling manufacturer. The company has found success in recent years thanks to its modern & attractive design DNA as well as its emphasis on quality and innovative engineering.
LEXUS
Lexus is the luxury manufacturer founded 1989 in Japan and first sold to the US market. It apparently stands for Luxury EXports United States, however it has never been confirmed. The company is wholly owned by Toyota. There are 10 Lexus models available to the Australian market including the CT 200h, GS450h, IS F, IS250, IS350, LS600hL, LX570, RX350 & RX450h. The Lexus LF-A is set to move the brand into a new level of sophistication.
HONDA
Honda was founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda and continues to be the second largest manufacturer in Japan. The company has developed a reputation for innovation and sporty, high-revving engines over the decades, though in recent years has been more focused on 'green' technologies than sports cars. Honda currently sells more than 10 models in Australia, including both a hatchback and sedan wearing the famous Civic nameplate.
FORD
Ford Motor company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford. The company currently produces the Territory and Falcon models and derivatives in Australia with other models coming in from Thailand and other nations. Ford sells 11 passenger models in Australia such as the Focus & Fiesta plus its Ford Performance Vehicles range (FPV). The American company has recently launched its "Green" range of vehicles with the "ECOnetic" brand.
BMW
BMW was founded by Franz Joseph Popp in 1916 in Germany, however the first BMW car didn’t go on sale until 1929 as it originally produced aircraft engines and motorcycles. BMW currently has a range of nine different passenger vehicles including the 3 Series, 5 Series, & 7 Series and 4WD/SUV models such as X1, X3, X5, & X6 available in Australia. BMW is today highly regarded for performance and luxury. Creating some of the most exciting sports cars in the world as well as exploring and creating new niche segments.
AUDI
Audi was born in 1909 when August Horch translated his last name into Latin, which is Audi. The badge today symbolises the four companies that merged in 1932 to create the German automotive company. There are currently 15 models available in a number of variations with the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and Q5 and all popular Audi Q7. The Audi R8 is the brand's halo car.
ALFA ROMEO
Alfa Romeo was founded in 1910 in Milan, Italy with a focus on motorsport, design and performance. A publicly held company from 1932, the marque has been a part of the Fiat Group since 1986. Its Australian line-up comprises the MiTo and Giulietta.
HOLDEN
Holden was started back 1856 as a saddlery business in South Australia. Holden designs, builds and sells vehicles such as the Commodore, Barina & Cruze to the world and particularly in Australia where it has 300+ dealers. Holden is based in Port Melbourne and makes use of an engine manufacturing plant in Victoria plus a vehicle manufacturing operation located in Adelaide South Australia.
